Sister Judith Brun, CSJ, who served as principal of St. Joseph’s Academy in Baton Rouge, LA for 25 years, has been named a Volunteer Activist for 2005. She was among the 13 community leaders honored at the 34th annual Volunteer Activists Awards Luncheon, held May 6 at the Holiday Inn Select. The event benefits the Baton Rouge Speech and Hearing Foundation.

Sr. Judith was honored for her volunteer efforts in the field of education and her work on numerous community boards, including Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, The Chamber of Greater Baton Rouge, Boys Hope/Girls Hope, Baton Rouge Children’s Coalition, the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank and Mid-City Redevelopment Alliance. She has served on Governor Kathleen Blanco’s Transition Education Policy Council, the LSU Chancellor’s Task Force on K-16 Linkages, the Louisiana Charter School Review Committee, the St. Francis Xavier Community Board and the Our Lady of the Lake College Board of Trustees. The Baton Rouge Rotary Club named her a Paul Harris Fellow.

“Recognition as a Volunteer Activist by the Speech and Hearing Foundation is a great honor for me,” Sr. Judith said. “I admire the work of the Speech and Hearing Foundation. I appreciate being nominated for this award, and I am proud to be recognized by such an exemplary group in the Baton Rouge community.

“To be honest, I’ve always gained more than I have given from all of the groups and individuals with whom I have volunteered. To be recognized for this work goes far beyond my expectations and is a great delight to me.”
